Fabulous Event - Monday, February 15, 2010

2010 was my first time in the Mt Taylor Quad, and have nothing but compliments to the volunteers, organizers and participants.  It was so fun and well organized.  I hope to bring several friends to particpate next year!

Hanging out at the run/ski transition was a hoot!  Met so many fantastic people, hope I see them next year!  Sandford and his advice for hand warmers in my ski boots,  Tua man who passed my TWICE! Jean who luckily didn't have to herringbone the whole ski, and Jessica and her friend who had help creating waxed duck tape skins, and witty pink Barbara who had such a fun attitude, and knitter lady who explained to me how to knit long decorateive braids onto the bottom of a hat with ear flaps.  Best wishes to you all.

And of course the many many volunteers who made this happen!  i'm so impressed with all the early morning and late night efforts to haul our gear, place it out, pack the trails,  place hand made benches in the snow for comfortable gear changes.    The volunteers were so generous of time, energy and  creativity.  Thanks so much!

COURSE REPORT 12/31/2009 - Friday, January 01, 2010

The dogs and I went up to check out the course yesterday to see how the previous day's snow stacked up. NM-547 was plowed to the end of the pavement at the bike/run transition. The run course had about 6" snow, unplowed, but pretty well tracked up by the traffic--mostly trucks trailering snowmobiles. 4WD needed. FR-453 was also unplowed & tracked up to the run/ski transition. The ski course had about 8" new snow at the lower end to about 12-16" on the upper end, with more or less where drifted by the wind. We made the first tracks up on the new snow. With a few more skiers as the snow settles, the track should build up nicely. I didn't bring skins, so my assault on Heartbreak Hill was ugly, but we made it up zig-zag. We were running short on daylight, so we didn't go up to the summit. We descended to the saddle and skied down FR-453 (not the parallel quad course). They had run a snowcat up FR-453 to the La Mosca antennas, so that made a nice track to ski down. Another storm or two before the race, and we should be in good shape.

2008 particpants involved in the truck/bike accident - Monday, October 12, 2009

Good Evening,

If your bike was injured or destroyed, as the case may be, in the accident last year, you need to file a claim with the Forest Service,  You should have received a packet (you also gave your contact info to the police).  It has been almost a year and they will leave the claim open for another year (they are waiting on three people).  So, if your handle bar tape only got ruined and you are not planning on filing a claim, please let them know so we can settle this.  My bike came home in a trash bag without a single salvagable part.  I would really like to see the money it cost me to replace my bike sooner rather than later.  Thanks
